I have hit many a double and treble multiple in my life, but never ventured beyond that, so the challenge for 2018 is to set things in motion to score the the ultimate biggie – a SIX TIMER!
The odds of selecting 6 winning horses are huge. Heck, most people struggle to find just one or two a day. But the challenge has been set and I am keen to put in place a strategy that will go someway towards achieving my goal.
Firstly, I need a selection system. I have one in mind! It involves a combination of 2 different sets of ratings, one based on earnings and the other based on speed. One is a free source, and the other is a paid subscription costing less than a tenner a month. Combined they are showing good early results and I am hopeful that this selection method might just tip the odds in my favour considerably.
Using a value approach primarily, I plan to select 6 horses across multiple meetings every day and use a staking system that provides the benefits of accumulation with the necessity to keep stakes as low as possible. To that end I am going with the WEEKENDER, an interesting staking system I stumbled across many years ago in the book: The Complete Manual of Racing and Betting Systems by David Duncan.
The staking plan was highlighted as a candidate for use at a big win tilt on Saturday racing, but such is the nature of the bet I am happy to apply it universally here and use it every day. The bet involves placing 16 bets – and in my case I am using stakes of 50p on each, outlaying a total of £8 at a time for the complete bet and trying to maximise my returns using BOG whenever possible.
The rules are simple:
- Select 6 horses, using a judicious mixture of shorter priced horses (in my case I am not going below 7/2 at the the bottom end), mid-range priced, and a biggie or two thrown in for good measure if I can find a suitable selection.
- Number the horses 1-6 respectively.
- Place 6 Doubles on the following: 1 and 3, 1 and 6, 2 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 6, 4 and 5.
- Place 6 Trebles on the following: 1, 2 and 5 + 1, 3 and 5 + 1, 4 and 6 + 2, 3 and 4 + 2, 3 and 6 + 4, 5 and 6.
- Please the following accumulators: 1, 2, 3 and 4 + 1, 2, 5 and 6 + 3, 4, 5 and 6 + 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
In total that’s 16 bets. If 2 horses win we may secure a double, 3 horses guarantees it. If 3 horses win we may secure a treble, 4 winners guarantees it. If 5 win, and 1 lets us down then we are guaranteed a four-timer! If all 6 win then we crack open the Champagne as Christmas has come early.
Obviously there are no guarantees this will work, but each day I will put the selections in the Tips section of the Blog and write a short summary at the end of each day detailing how good, or bad, the results were.
The aim is to be ahead at the end of the 2018 at the very least – so an interesting exercise.
And while I personally think multiples betting is pretty much a suckers game, this approach has a slightly different twist with the sequence and it remains to be seen whether I am sucking the barrel of the betting bank I have put aside for this exercise, or sucking on champagne at the end of it!
Here’s hoping it’s the latter rather than the former.
